Corentin Douguet finishes second in the Trin’40
Departure on Friday, 24 April 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
He was expected, and he delivered! After 4 days, 1 hour, 33 minutes and 14 seconds of racing, the skipper of SNSM, Faites un don, crossed the finish line of the first edition of the Trin’40 in second place at 3:33:04 p.m.*, Tuesday, April 28. He finished 1 hour and 2 minutes behind the winner, Guillaume Pirouelle, and completed the course at an average speed of 8.5 knots.
“I’m happy with my race—it’s a good result for a comeback. It was really enjoyable sailing; I had a great time out on the water. I was missing a bit of rhythm at the start and had trouble getting to sleep early on. Then I was pretty exhausted on the second night—there was a bit of a rough patch where I wasn’t very sharp, and Guillaume took advantage of it to open up a small gap that I never managed to close afterward. He even extended it at the second Gironde waypoint, which really split the fleet.
The conditions meant that all the boats were sailing at roughly the same speed—on VMG like that, there aren’t significant differences between boats. And he really knows how to sail! If there had been reaching conditions, I would have had an advantage, but we didn’t get any.
I hadn’t done any solo racing since 2022; the boat spent the winter in the yard, and I came back at the last minute, only sailing it twice beforehand. I’m not the only one—it was the season opener for everyone—but it doesn’t help! Still, I finished second, so there’s nothing dramatic about it. I’m happy, and there are still a few months to prepare—we’ll get back to training!”
